Thumbs up Is that a weapon+off-hand item in your pocket, or are u just happy to see me? v2

Lawnmowers Note; Despite having been here since Marc 06, I apparently fail at making threads with approriate content and in the right forum, so here goes another attempt at making a suggestion that will thrill the GW world if it came true!! yay!!!

This version is modified without The bad unappropriate content . I hope you will enjoy this second attempt at bad photoshopping that took me embarrasingly long time to do(should have used paint!!!)!

What you see here is a Warrior with a Brute Sword. Potentially swords could be carried by the side or on the back. Link from the Legend of Zelda is famous for carrying his sword under his shield. In other words: He carry both sword on shield on his back.
In second picture we see a Warrior/Deverish. Its a nice statemente to sometimes demonstrate the second profession that people have. If the Warrior had been Warrior/Assassin or Warrior/Ranger, he would have carried two daggers on his side or a Bow on his back, which would also enhance the notion that "my second profession is not a mere afterthought. I can actually do some cleaver customization to show to other people im going to group/trade/interacte/socialise with!! It shows that if this was implanted all profession combinations would be much more uniqe. Even further for Warriors since they seem to focus on one weapon type at the time. Therefore a Monk/Warrior with Axe stats would be visually different from a Monk/Warrior with Hammer stats, and thus the variation and the feeling of different dual profession systems are enforced.
This is one of the primary reasons to do this. By no normal ways can someone guess what a persons second proffesion is by looking at them in town, and this is a shame.

I imagine it would be like this in towns.

Primary objective:

-To create diversity, uniqeness and to allow people to further customize their characters by displaying weapons on their backs while not-fighting and/or being in towns

Problems and solutions:

-Because of the GW engine, all these extra objects in towns would be rendered entirely by the machine, and not by the server, thus lag(latency) should not be a problem, at least I think so!

-Instead of lag, the more realistic problem would probably the extra workload of the CPU and Ram, because of having to further process a larger number of objects. However, as computers get faster it seems reasonable to do this, over 2 years post the games launch. Furthermore, an toggle for this hole feature would be most desireable, in my opinion!

-Most people in GW looks very similiar at this point, thus its hard to appreciate ones character(s) to their full extent. Armors for each Profession looks closely similiar to one another, but with the larger array of weapons and possibilities of rare weapon skins becoming a more desireable factor, weapons-on-back could greatly improve the user experience

Thus(heheh.. i just learned that wordXD) is it not reasonable to suggest that carrying weapons on your back while in town is a worthy addition to the user experience?
If GWEN was the last thing we ever get in terms of more customization in terms of armor, character appereance etc... Then I think Anet should use everything they currently got. < - a person opinion, not a threat!

I know tons of people in the game who havent seen 1/5 of all the weapons in the game, because all of their groups use a few popular weapon. ( "A tons of people" might be to extreme to say, but im just saying that I can think of a few people who would appreciate it. don't hate me because of my sluggish words of words in bad combinations)

seeing someone carrying a strange, rare or/and obscure weapon in town might make someone interested in trying to get the more silly/cool/wacky/freaky/ugly/weird weapons for whatever reason to go with their character. It might also enhance peoples motivation for seeking all these non-popular weapons with max stats. Just a personal belief that some people will fancy such things. Not trying to be a hijacker opinion-enforcer!

Because was that not the point of GW? No uber stats - just rare skins and fancy bragging. < - My own belief about the core design sheet of the game is by no means an argument outside the influence of my own facial area and brain component!

Some people say: [CENSORED] "oh Jolly, chap! If you should so desire to flash thy strong steel in the Krytan sun, you could just be a nice mate and desire the courage to ask another bloke about the possibilities of a trade window exchange view fancy, charming, im sure" [/CENSORED]

honestly I dont understand this, because people in GW dont just walk up to a player they dont know, open trade window and show a weapon and then run away like a [CENSORED] firework filled fantastic amusement park vendor owner ! That would be like chopping up your favorite Teletubbies VHS tape in real life, and mailing it to your local garbage collector without notifying the correct protocols and regulations! people just dont do that. NO! [/CENSORED]

the fact of the matter is, that its the things that enhance a game. visual fidelity and variations is important in all forms of life. also in games. <- personal preference. giving the notion that I alone decide the importance of life, is not true. sorry.

so PLEASE make it happen, SWEET Anet. I know you can do it. I trust in you. We had it in WoW, Zelda, Oblivion, Counter-Strike Source.(WE by no means, means that everyone having had interaction with Guild Wars, have "had" WoW, Zelda, Oblivion or Counter-Strike Source!) That alone is not a reason to add it, but it gives an idea of why people ARE adding it to their games. Because it rocks.(IN MY OPINION)

because peoples pockets should not be magical endless like some silly HAPPY nanny fantasy. [PERSONAL OUTBURST] ! These strong guys actually ENJOY to run around. they actually have to use physical items to inflect death, and yet their weapons... their tools of the trade in this game of killing, war and brutality where weapons are the only instrument used, is being hidden away, like its [CENSORED] some Happy newspaper article your mother couldnt find last week(my mum at least:'( ).[/CENSORED]

I dont know how to make this post. At first I wanted to [CENSORED] Suggest that we could all watch a rerun of our favorite episodes of Days of our lives over a cup hot Green Tea with extra Paprika leaves, but even I know thats going to far(Milk and sugar should be, at least offered for all people who would desire to choose in this magical event)! [/CENSORED]

[CENSORED]So in the happy dialouge saying of Ronald Reagan McDonald: "Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!!!"(PLEASE)[/CENSORED]

i like this idea personally, not as a vain point of view, but just because it'd look cool, does seem like it'd be pretty tough to implement since the coding isnt there already and there'd have to some new "action sequences" to get your weps out from on your back etc, but nice idea nonetheless.

only thing i can see is the lesser intelligient of our species abusing each other over "that has crap skinz nuub", "zomg where'd you get that sword" or "annoyingpersonx: Can i buy that sword off you plox?"

Then what if it was like this:

No additional animations or anything. Once you enter a town you just have the weapons on your back, magically! Poof! Of course there should be a toggle. But that way it would be kept to a minimum!

The option of having the items displayed on your back/belt in towns would be awesome. What about casters? Maybe just have staves strapped to your back and foci worn on the belt?

what about assassins? where do daggers go? I also wonder like Biostem where casters would keep their weapons.

I like the idea, BUT:

Anet couldnt even get the clipping right for spectacles on all hair styles. Frustrates me as I am one of those hair styles where sometimes I am wearing spectacles, other times a lovely monocle. So I salvaged them and decided I didnt like them anyway. I see an idea such as this raising such issues to the Nth degree due to different weapon and character sizes, armor types, as well as how one might logically store a given weapon type per each class. There's also capes to consider and just how that might be rendered (maybe you can only show a weapon if you hide your cape?).

Still, a nice idea. The sort of thing I think developers would want to do from the ground up while making new models, a la GW2, vs trying to do it now.

I agree with the idea, and as Aera Lure says, a good feature for GW2, because implementing it in GW would take off "valuable resources" currently devoted to GW2.

if this did happen, I think it would be nice to toggle where you want the sword at... like on your belt or on your back. obviously you couldn't do it with every weapon, but it would give variety.

This could be expanded as well - I know it's not really a valid fighting style, but how cool would it be to be able to wield a sword in one hand and the scabbard in the other (maybe as a blunt weapon or to block).

Some caster items would look weird, though - the cauldrons some professions get wouldn't look right, and who wears a reflecting mirror on their belt?

I hope so. I think they said somewhere that even though they where not going to make more expansions/chapters, they would still make regular updates for GW1.

So I think it's possible. Probably not something as big as a new trade system, DX10 Support or Auction House, but I think it's likely that they want to listen to smaller requests like this, log-in screen request and stuff like that!
At least I hope so!

I would only /sign this if it were a toggle to not only show the weapons, but also view others. That way those on slower connections can just turn off viewing others, but can still show their own if they choose to.

Hell, they could add with this a toggle to view others' high-res armor in-town. Imagine the FPS with 100+ high-res armors and viewable weapon combos all at the same time... yeesh. Still would be pretty bad-ass.

Hey. NPCs should have them there too.

I would say more: the 'stand' animation for ALL humanoid creatures should be like that, since they are always in the combat animation either attacking, being attacked, using skills.

That way NPC and henchmen in towns would not have the weapons in their hands.
The current hand aimation could be used when switching weapons, and then go back again to the holster animation.
